ct mounted backwards I Think
I mounted a dunlope SP 7000 195-55-16 on the rear of my roadstar.Iwas reading about tire direction and did not even check the ct before mounting the tire. I don't think my sp 5000 on my nomad had a direction This one has inside and out side It rides and handels good I need to know if this will hurt anything It was a pain to mount using tire irons. What do you think Thanks

On a bike both sides are inside and outside IMHO.

Re: ct mounted backwards I Think
Not sure, but if I recall correctly, the argument over reversing direction of tires by 4 or 5-way rotation was decided as irrelevant on the new radials, so it really shouldn't make a difference on a lightweight bike. This was something like ten years or so back.

Re: ct mounted backwards I Think
Do not think it's a big issue construction wise. I would be more concerned about
the pattern, to avoid aqua planning, but seen the pattern of this Dunlop I think
it isn't a big issue either.

+1 on what CaribCruiser said. With a symmetrical tread patter (all I would personally use.) the direction is vital. Your tire isn't symetrical and I can't see that it will move water much differently in either direction.
Re: ct mounted backwards I Think
It makes no differance at all...on the 3000, 5000 ,or 7000 dunlops..

To see what direction the tire is mounted at, just look for the arrow pointing to the correct rotation. It might not matter to some, but the factory has a reason for the arrow.

But there are MANY car tires that are directional and it makes a huge difference which way the tire rotates ON A CAR. Not sure if it would make a difference on a bike though.quadancer wrote:Not sure, but if I recall correctly, the argument over reversing direction of tires by 4 or 5-way rotation was decided as irrelevant on the new radials, so it really shouldn't make a difference on a lightweight bike. Check that rotation arrow!!
If the directional orientation is due to water pumping by the tread, it'll make a HUGE difference on a bike!! Some tread designs take water from the center of the tire and pump it out the shoulders of the tread to reduce the chances of hydroplaning. Goodyear AquaTread is a good example. Turn them around and run 'em backwards and you are pumping all the water in the contact patch to the center of the tire! If your intent was to float on a thin layer of water, you couldn't do better than that if you tried!

Re: ct mounted backwards I Think
I think there is some confusion here, Actually when reversed, you are pushing water to the side and slightly forward in the direction of travel rather than to the side and slightly opposite the direction of travel. No tire siping will direct water under the contact patch. Water handling is more efficient when the tire is run in the direction it was designed for, but it will work either way. Double Darksiders have known this for a long time.perfesser wrote:If the directional orientation is due to water pumping by the tread, it'll make a HUGE difference on a bike!!
